Job Description

Overview

Hi there! We’re Alma. We’re on a mission to make immigration more accessible, transparent, and human through cutting-edge technology and thoughtful legal support. Alma is backed by top-tier investors like Bling Capital, Village Global, Forerunner, NFX, and Conviction, and founded by a diverse team of Harvard Law, HBS, and UCLA grads with experience at Cooley, McKinsey, EY, and Uber. Our legal team is made up of former Fragomen, Kramer, Ogletree, BAL attorneys and paralegals.

We’re looking for a creative, client-focused Immigration Attorney to join our fast-growing legal team. If you’re passionate about employment-based immigration law, excited by the idea of building better legal systems, and want to work at the intersection of law and technology — we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As an Immigration Attorney at Alma, you’ll wear both legal and strategic hats. You’ll guide clients through complex immigration matters (think: EB-1s, H-1Bs, O-1s, TNs, and beyond), help design better legal workflows, and collaborate closely with our product and engineering teams to build tools that transform the immigration experience.

Here’s what you can expect to spend your time on:

  • Providing expert legal guidance on a wide range of employment-based immigration cases (EB-1A/B, EB-2 NIW, O-1A/B, H-1B, L-1, PERM, TN, E-2, etc.)
  • Serving as attorney of record and drafting petitions that are persuasive, well-reasoned, and client-centered
  • Helping clients navigate uncertainty with clear communication, strategic advice, and deep legal knowledge
  • Collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams to improve our LegalTech platform and internal tools
  • Contributing to systems-building across templates, legal processes, and training resources
  • Supporting new client consultations, helping assess eligibility and recommend pathways

You Should Apply If

  • You have 3–5 years of experience practicing employment-based immigration law
  • You’re licensed to practice law and hold a J.D. or L.L.M. from an accredited institution
  • You care deeply about client experience and pride yourself on being responsive, strategic, and human in your communication
  • You’re energized by the pace of a startup and want to help shape how legal services are delivered
  • You’re curious, collaborative, and excited to build new systems — not just operate within old ones

You Should NOT Apply If

  • You’re looking for a traditional law firm environment with rigid hierarchies and a narrow scope of work
  • You prefer a clearly defined legal role that doesn’t involve product input or tech experimentation
  • You’re not comfortable with ambiguity — many cases fall into gray zones that require nuance and judgment
  • You’re not interested in building scalable legal solutions — we\u2019re deeply invested in systems thinking

What It’s Like To Work At Alma

We’re a small, mission-driven team reimagining immigration from the ground up. That means we value thoughtful writing, cross-functional collaboration, and building systems that scale with care. We move fast, work across disciplines, and are always learning from our clients and from each other. We\u2019re remote-first, low-ego, and genuinely care about creating better outcomes for immigrants and their families.

Benefits & Perks

  • Hyper-competitive base salary range based on experience
  • Performance-based incentives (equity/sales commission)
  • 100% Health coverage + Vision + Dental
  • 20 days PTO + 10 Federal Holidays
  • $250 per month in wellness allowance
  • A front-row seat to startup growth, with mentorship from legal, tech, and business leaders
  • Opportunities to shape internal systems, lead on strategy, and build something new

A Quick Note

We know the “perfect” candidate doesn’t exist. If this role excites you but you don’t meet every qualification, we’d still love to hear from you. Immigration is complex. So are people. That’s what makes this work so meaningful.
